The book, edited by Fabio Benzi, presents a selection of paintings, sculptures, architectural designs, applied arts (furniture, ceramics, glass, pictures, posters, decorations, fabrics etc..) That make progress on this, which introduced the international style ' Italy Kingdom in the European and modernist aesthetic debate.

Beginning with an examination of the antecedents Italians who contributed to the formation of this style in the eighties of the nineteenth century (which are very substantial and independent as is often thought erroneously that the Italian liberty is merely a derivation from processing foreign), the volume presents through the masterpieces of that taste of Italy's deep and original contribution to the formation and expression of an international debate that took on the name variously (depending on country) of Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, etc.. The course is structured around thematic chapters that enucleated fundamental themes that characterize the art nouveau: the "correspondances" natural and biomorphic line; modern life; aestheticism Gothic and Renaissance roots as a search for cultural exoticism; geometry, environmental exhibitions and decoration in public buildings, the press.

The last original book on this subject dates back several decades, and now it seems high time, after a remarkable harvest of studies that have occurred on this subject, to reproduce to a large audience an editorial product that you feel greatly updated lack, so that we continue to reprint the contributions of the sixties and seventies. The issue was recently the subject of great international reinterpretations through major exhibition in Paris (Grand Palais), London (Victoria and Albert Museum) and Washington (National Gallery).

Il libro, curato da Fabio Benzi, presenta una selezione di dipinti, sculture, progetti architettonici, arti applicate (mobili, ceramiche, vetri, illustrazioni, manifesti, decorazioni, tessuti ecc.) che fanno il punto su questo stile internazionale che introdusse l'Italia Unita nel dibattito estetico europeo e modernista.

Iniziando con l'esaminare gli antecedenti italiani che contribuirono alla formazione di questo stile negli anni Ottanta dell'Ottocento (che sono assai cospicui e indipendenti: mentre spesso si ritiene erroneamente che il liberty italiano sia una mera derivazione da elaborazioni straniere), il volume presenta attraverso i capolavori di quel gusto la profonda e originalissima partecipazione dell'Italia alla formazione ed espressione di un dibattito internazionale che assunse variamente il nome (a seconda dei Paesi) di Art Nouveau, Jugendstil ecc. Il percorso tematico si articola intorno ad alcuni capitoli che enucleano i temi fondamentali che caratterizzano lo stile liberty: le "correspondances" naturali e la linea biomorfica; la vita moderna; l'estetismo neogotico e neorinascimentale come ricerca di radici culturali; l'esotismo; la geometria; la decorazione ambientale nelle mostre e negli edifici pubblici; la stampa.

L'ultimo libro originale su questo tema risale ad alcuni decenni fa, ed ora appare giunto il momento, dopo una messe notevolissima di studi che si sono prodotti sull'argomento, di riproporre a un vasto pubblico un prodotto editorialmente aggiornato di cui si sente enormemente la mancanza, al punto che si continuano a ristampare contributi degli anni Sessanta e Settanta. Il tema è stato recentemente oggetto di grandi rivisitazioni internazionali, attraverso imponenti mostre a Parigi (Grand Palais), a Londra (Victoria and Albert Museum) e a Washington (National Gallery).
